Sustainability achievements within Australia TradeCoast

Sustainability within Australia TradeCoast is at an all-time high with Brisbane Airport in the running to win another sustainability award and the Port of Brisbane releasing its Climate Change Commitment.

Brisbane Airport has been named as one of three finalists in the 2009 Sustainable Industries awards category. The awards, held by the Department of Environment and Resource Management, recognise leadership and innovation in business sustainability.

The Port of Brisbane Corporation has released its Climate Change Commitment, outlining the Corporation’s approach to global environmental, social and economic challenges. The Corporation’s climate change targets are to:

  • develop a fuel efficiency strategy for the Corporation’s dredging fleet by June 2009
  • reduce the Corporation’s total electricity use by 8% from 2007/08 levels by 2010, and aim for 12% by 2015
  • divert 80% of recyclable waste from Corporation offices from landfill by 2010 and aim for 95% by 2012
  • assess sea level rise and physical impacts of climate change at the port by 2009.
