Lord Mayor Launches Brisbane’s Premier Business Awards
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman together with Brisbane Marketing has launched the 2009 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards, Brisbane’s premier business Awards program. Celebrating its fourth successful year, the Awards reward businesses and individuals for their exceptional contributions to the continued growth of the Brisbane economy. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said despite the global downturn Brisbane businesses were still finding inspiration and creating innovation. "Brisbane companies continue to develop leading-edge ideas and drive our City's economy," the Lord Mayor said. "In doing so they contribute to positioning Brisbane as 'Australia's New World City’, recognised by thought leaders world-wide. “In 2008, Brisbane was cited by the World Economic Forum as a ‘hot spring’ - a fast-growing innovation hub on track to become a world player. “Further to this, Brisbane was nominated in 2009 for the first time as a Knowledge City in the global MAKCi Awards program. Brisbane was also identified as the only Australian city amongst 31 cities world-wide to offer the world’s best outsourcing centres, according to a KPMG international report. "The Lord Mayor’s Business Awards program is a unique opportunity to showcase the companies keeping Brisbane at the forefront of innovation.” Brisbane Marketing, the City’s economic development agency, will be hosting the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards for the fourth successive year. Brisbane Marketing’s Director of Investment Attraction, Daniel Havas said the Awards program contributes directly to the City’s prominence as a New World City. “Brisbane Marketing is committed to growing the City’s exceptional talent base and rewarding new world thinking.
